25 years of the Budapest Convention (CMNI)

Did you know that the Budapest Convention (CMNI) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year?

The Convention was concluded in 2001 and introduced uniform rules on liability for international inland waterway transport.

Belgium incorporated it into national law in 2008, making it applicable to international inland transport contracts.

Today, CMNI ensures common rules across many European countries, bringing greater clarity, legal certainty and efficiency to inland navigation.
